This is where it began; with family and personal stories that carry a spark that I want to kindle.
First, let me introduce you to Albert. As a young boy, not yet ten years old, his father took him on a long journey, on foot, whilst looking for work. Against a background of The Vagrancy Act of 1824, still on the statute books today, it was unlawful for Albert and his father to sleep on the streets or beg but with little money and access to any form of income, options were limited. Albert’s personal story tells how they avoided unwanted attention yet maintained dignity and pride despite their plight.
Here is Albert’s own introduction to his story.
